Vehicle Permits – Update to Bylaw No. 01/20

Font size A A A

The RM of Sherwood has adopted Bylaw No. 01/20 to regulate vehicle weights in the RM.  In this bylaw, no person shall operate or move or cause to be operated or moved on or over, a motor vehicle at a registered gross vehicle weight greater than secondary weight on a public highway within the boundaries of the Rural Municipality of Sherwood #159, except for those roads deemed primary weight roads within the RM.

The RM has received concerns since the adoption of Bylaw No. 01/20 regarding the requirement that divisible loads are not allowed to haul at primary weights. This issue was reviewed by the Roads and Infrastructure Committee and it was agreed that removing Section 5. e) Overweight permits are restricted to non‐divisible loads and loads considered impractical to divide would clarify this issue and would allow haulers in the RM with divisible loads to apply for permits to haul over secondary weights and up to primary weights.

Section 5. e) Overweight permits are restricted to non‐divisible loads and loads considered impractical to divide has been removed from Bylaw No. 01/20.  Council passed all 3 readings of this bylaw at the March 10th, 2021 Regular Council Meeting.    All divisible loads are now allowed to haul at primary weights with the appropriate permits.
