Snow Piling in Industrial Parks

The RM of Sherwood No. 159 would like to remind landowners that the RM is only responsible for winter road maintenance and snow removal on RM roadways. Landowners are responsible for clearing snow from their property, including the approach, from the edge of the roadway into the property. All snow piles must be kept neatly on your site or hauled away to an approved snow dumping facility.

The RM does not operate a snow management facility. Landowners must make room for storage on their property or arrange for hauling off‐site to an approved storage facility, such as the Regina Snow Storage Site.

For those who are maintaining their own snow piles, the RM thanks you for your cooperation and that you are helping keep the Sherwood Industrial Park safe and tidy.

Hauling and storage of snow from offsite is Prohibited unless a Development Permit has been approved for a snow storage facility.

Undeveloped properties shall not be used for snow storage. Snow melt runoff must be contained to the individual site and must not extend onto property owned by others.

Snow dumping and/or piling of snow in the RM right of way or on any other RM lands is prohibited under the RM of Sherwood’s Zoning Bylaw (Bylaw No. 18/17) and Traffic Bylaw (Bylaw No. 10/15). Penalties for contravention of the bylaws are stipulated in Section 243(2) of The Planning and Development Act, 2007:

  1. In the case of an individual, a fine of not more than $10,000, to imprisonment for not more than one year or to both;
  2. In the case of a corporation, a fine of not more than $25,000; and
  3. In the case of a continuing offence, to a maximum daily fine of not more than $2,500 per day or part of a day Under Section 7 of the Traffic bylaw: If a person is convicted of placing snow in the road right of way and does not have it removed within 48 hours, the municipality may remove the snow and charge the expense of doing so to that person.

If you see any unauthorized snow piles, please contact the RM office to report the offence.

We appreciate your co‐operation in this matter in order to keep our Industrial Parks safe for all the ratepayers, their employees and customers.
